Our Story

Midtown Atlanta has seen a lot of changes over the years, but 1150 B Peachtree Street has remained a part of the historical Atlanta Woman’s Club since 1907. Also known as The Wimbish House, this mansion on Peachtree is one of the few originals that remain. In 1920, the addition to The Wimbish House, which now houses Opera, was complete. Architects P. Thornton Marye and Barret Alger (of Fox Theatre fame) designed the theatre and banquet hall which the Atlanta Journal proclaimed “the South’s most complete auditorium, gem-like in its beauty.” This additional structure was mostly used for dinners, meetings, Sunday teas, lectures, operas and live theatre.

In 1973, Theater of the Stars took on a major renovation of the deteriorated auditorium, changing the name to Peachtree Playhouse. Several years and production later, the theater was once again in need of major costly repairs. In 1988, a new tenant took over the lease and the theater and surrounding gardens became the nightclub Petrus. A few years later, club AXYS came and went. After several years of dormancy, Eleven50 took over the lease and introduced a nightclub and special events venue concept like no other in Atlanta. Eleven50 enjoyed an amazing run from 2000-2006 and then decided it was time to renovate the entire venue.

Spring 2007 marked the opening of Opera. Still owned and operated by the same LLC as Eleven50, Opera continues to be Atlanta’s premier private events and nightlife destination and winner of several awards and accolades.

Our Team

Amber Palmer

Director of Sales

Amber is the Director of Event Sales and comes from a major event company within the Greater Atlanta area,  having over eight years’ experience in the wedding and event industry. Amber studied education at Georgia Perimeter College and soon transferred to Clayton State University and obtained a degree in business. Prior to having her two adorable boys, Amber was asked what she would do as a career even if she didn’t make any money and she quickly answered “I would plan weddings and do photography.” This is what paved the way for her successful career in the wedding and event industry, which aside from her children, is her biggest accomplishment thus far.  Amber’s success due to her keen attention to detail and her hustle to make every event a success. She is most complimented in her ability to strive for perfection and her ability to eliminate the stress for her clients by being their guiding source through every step of their planning process. Her repeat clientele base and referrals speak tremendously of Amber’s passion and execution of her events. Amber hope is to make Atlanta Event Center at Opera the number one venue for Events in midtown Atlanta.

Leo Garcia

Executive Chef

We welcomed Leo Garcia as our new Executive Chef in 2016. He was born in Guerrero, Mexico and came to the United States at the age of eighteen. He started his experience in the hotel business working his way up from a dishwasher to an Executive Chef. Throughout the years he studied under various top chefs and his passion for cooking developed into him becoming a highly skilled chef of his own. He has held top positions in various restaurants, hotels, and catering companies nationwide. He brings over 28 years of cooking experience to our kitchen and enjoys customizing menus to fit our clients needs. Chef Leo is one of the nicest chefs you will ever meet and the quality of his food is top-notch. He takes great pride in making sure every item is prepared perfectly and tastes amazing!

Amy Harris

Private Event Coordinator

Amy has been a professional in the event industry for over 10 years. Originally from Battle Creek MI, she attended Western Michigan University and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing. After moving to the South from the cold Midwest, she quickly fell in love with the Atlanta event industry and gained various event experience throughout the years. Amy is our hub of event communication and logistics and makes sure even the smallest details have been planned out perfectly, no matter how big or small the event. She specializes in creating floorplans, timelines, and day of event management. Amy’s passion for events shines through in every detail and she strives to provide smoothly executed events that leave guests with an everlasting impression.

Courtney Will

Sales Assistant

Courtney is an Atlanta native with over 8 years of customer service experience. She attended Kennesaw State University, where she flourished in Business and Communications. As a veteran of Opera Nightclub, Courtney knows the Atlanta Event Center venue like the back of her hand.  She has been an integral team member in cultivating a plethora of public events for celebrities, Hip-Hop Artists, special interest groups, world-famous EDM DJs and more.  Courtney is eager to assist both new and returning clients with the events of their dreams and turning them into realities.

Chris Duggan

Lead Bar Operations Manager

When it comes to bartending and bar operations, Chris Duggan is one of the best in the business. Originally from Minnesota, he considers himself an Atlanta native. He started his career at the early age of 13 working in his family owned restaurant. He continued to work in various restaurants growing up and added bartending to his skill set while attending college at Georgia State University. He graduated with a degree in Mathematics which has made him a superb mixologist for unique specialty drinks; always creating the perfect ratio of custom mixes. Chris has been apart of our beverage service department for 6 years and was promoted to our Lead Bar Manager 2 years ago. Chris thoroughly enjoys conversing with guests and providing superior customer service. His says his favorite characteristic about events is the “diversity” that each event is unique and different. He enjoys serving guests from all walks of life and providing fast, efficient, and friendly service to every event.

Our Awards

The name “Allies” was selected to represent all “allied” event companies in Atlanta working together for a common good: to promote excellence in event design, planning and production. It is presented by the Atlanta Chapters of Ises and Nace. The Allie Awards recognize companies and individuals who have made their mark on the Atlanta event scene and stood out above the rest.
